Keto Journey

Cabbage & Sausage

My house has been enjoying cabbage and sausage. It’s a great main dish that fills that’s filling, has a lot of flavor, and falls under the keto umbrella. Also, it’s a quick recipe and only has a few ingredients!

I brought cabbage & sausage to dinner at a friend’s house, and the teenager’s ate and liked it the dish. It was the first time I did not have to bring home leftover’s.

Geoff and Tommy took a trip up the hill to buy sausages from a market off Summit. They came home with a variety of, Italian, Moroccan, Thai, and Chicken & Garlic sausages. I used some of the Italian sausage in my cabbage & sausage recipe. Enjoy!

Recipe

  • 3 Italian Sausages cut into bite sized pieces
  • 1 head green cabbage, halved & sliced
  • 1 white onion, halved & sliced
  • 1/4 C. Chicken Broth
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 1T. Ghee

Heat skillet with ghee, when skillet is hot add the sausage. Cook for a few minutes then add the sliced onion. Cook onion & sausage for a few minutes. Sausage will be browned and onion is tender. Add sliced cabbage and fold in sausage/onion mixture to incorporate everything. With heat on medium, cover cabbage & sausage and let cook covered for 3 minutes. Mix again and add chicken broth, cover for another 3 minutes. Cabbage should be soft and easier to mix. Taste mixture before adding salt & pepper. (I always add S&P last because there is salt in the sausage and chicken broth.

Cabbage should be tender and not soggy, which is why I don’t cook the shit out of the cabbage. One thing I do towards the end of cooking is turning up the heat to cook off some of the liquid. I do that for maybe 1-2minutes and constantly stir the mixture.

Saving for a Special Occasion

I am challenged this week with wearing items in my closet that I have been holding off for a special occasion. One of my dresses comes to mind, and I will break it out, but honestly, I don’t purchase clothes intended only for special occasions. Plus, I don’t go out or get invited to places that require formal attire. Even with my shoes, I would hate to purchase special occasion shoes and never wear them because it was for one type of event and not for work.

Other things that I will be doing in the upcoming weeks:

  • Wearing a bold lip
  • Wearing a brooch and something sentimental
  • Wearing a clutch instead of a bag

Metallics +My Choice

Finishing off my metallics today, I wore the gold jeans.

I had a fun time styling the tunic top. However, it was a little challenging working with so much fabric. I attempted a variety of style options to get that perfect look. I tucked & untucked the blouse. I tied the blouse to the side of my waist and even wrapped it. Nothing caught my eye, so I settled for belting the tunic and pulling the top up to crop it.

What I did not like about the outfit was that I was cold throughout the day. I thought the double shirt would help keep me warm. I was so cold I took my outfit off at 3:00. I also thought the pants needed something other than the color I chose for the undershirt. Lastly, the pants made my legs look short which I think is from the shorter rise.

Geoff said he liked the outfit and the color combination looked good on me.

I wanted to wear something fun on Friday, so I decided to try out blue & black. It was sunny so I took out a pair of sandals I thrifted last year.

I love the top but thought the black joggers were too short. Fortunately (for me), I have two more pair of black joggers in the closet and I will try this outfit again.

  • Theory top
  • Old Navy joggers
  • Steve Madden sandals

OOTD +Sunday’s Look

Today, I was feeling the need to wear a blazer. In my heart, I was dying to wear Outfit #2, and like a kid at Christmas, I ran to the closet and grabbed the things necessary to put my look together.

I had a few meetings throughout the day, but since all meetings were not video, my co-workers never saw what I was wearing. Does it even matter? No.

Overall, the look did not make me feel “put together” or “stylish.” The combination of the pants and blazer felt odd. Adding the brown scarf as a top, I noticed I had too many warm colors pairing with the cool silver metallic pants. Also, the intensity seemed off, but it’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

SUNDAY

This photo was taken from an outfit I wore on Sunday. I originally slotted the outfit for a Friday wear to work, but kept my sweats. Geoff and I went out to visit his mom, and the outing gave me the perfect opportunity to wear Friday’s evening look. What is so evening about this look, you may ask? Well, nothing but maybe it’s a stretch to say velvet pants?? Geoff liked the outfit. I did not mind it, thought it looked nice, represented my style, and I would wear it again.

Overview: Glamorous Challenge 2

This week is all about wearing metallics. I have a few metallics pieces I enjoy wearing out, but don’t wear them to the office. The metallic pants I own have been a great addition to any outfit, and I find it easy that the fabrics go with just about anything in my closet.

I will merge into this week’s OOTD silver & gold pants, a gold vintage sweater with built-in shoulder-pads, and a black & orange metallic scarf that I’m not sure how I will style.

A big challenge for me will be the vintage gold sweater because the shoulder pads are not the best look for my inverted triangle body type. However, I will make something work.

These are the outfits I created for the week:

Night to Day 4

Today, I had “one of those days”. I completed the look with the Yellow vest, MJ jacket and baggy jeans and boy, was it the worst outfit ever. I decided to replace it because I did not want that ick feeling to reflect on my day. The true meaning of the exercise is to experience how items make you feel, good or bad, and today’s look was no bueno. The funny thing about a “bad idea” outfit is even though I fixed my hair and added a bold lip, it still didn’t help one bit. I wish I would have taken a photo to remember how out of proportion and frumpy the outfit was on my body.

I kept the jeans on, and I admit, I could have only replaced the vest and kept the jacket, but I changed the jacket to a corduroy blazer. I added a long scarf I purchased years ago from Old Navy that kept me warm throughout the day.

I thought I was not being fair to the process by skipping over Day 2’s look. How can I judge a look I created and say I don’t like it if when I won’t give it a chance and try it on? Can I start my next sentence with so? So, I pulled the outfit up on my phone, grabbed the items out of the closet, and put them on. I have to say that even after a long day at work, the outfit does not look that bad, and I wish I would have sucked it up and worn it on Tuesday.

I am not sure that I would ever wear this jacket to work but I would wear it going to lunch with the girls.

Night to Day 3

Tuesday was a meeting-free day, so I thought I would take the day off. The other reason I did not participate in a daily getup is that the outfit I created is ugly. The black and red pairing did not seem like me, so I left the outfit hanging in my closet and left my sweats on. Boy, was that a nice change!

Today’s outfit focuses on a skirt I thrifted for going out. I love the colors of the flowers and thought it would be a good wear in the Spring/Summer/Fall when the weather is not as cold. Since I would never wear a short skirt to work, I thought of wearing it as a 70’s tube top with a blouse underneath. I accessorized with a belt because the outfit looked like I needed to break up the prints. I took a photograph before I added the belt, and it did not look bad. However, I looked like I did not have a waist.

All-in-all, I was so happy with how this look turned out. I surprised myself by using the skirt as a top, and because of the elastic band, it held up throughout the day. I was comfortable and never fussed with the tube top.

The other thing I liked about the outfit was that the top looked cute over zoom. The flowers stood out and were complementary colors for me. I did receive a couple complements.

I look forward to wearing the outfit again. Next time, I will swap for some wide leg jeans and heels. Maybe use a t-shirt if it’s warm out.

Night to Day 1

Day 1, and I am already struggling with my morning attire. When I plan for the week ahead, the outfits look decent on my dress form, and I am confident that I will love the outfit.

The creation today did not bother me until I added the vest. What looked passable on the dress form looked like I was trying to stuff myself in too many layers. It was uncomfortable, so I took the vest off and used the chain around the blazer.

I also swapped out the jeans for a wider leg. I thought the wider leg may help balance out my shoulders. I think it did a good job.

I forgot I selected boots with the outfit, and when I pulled for shoes, I grabbed the Givenchy strappy booties.

I want to like this outfit really bad. I love mixing prints, and I love, love, love the black striped blouse. I felt something with the outfit was missing or off, which may be the reason why I decided to change into sweats towards mid-day.

Overview: Glamorous Challenge 1

This week’s goal is to wear something during the day that I would (normally) wear for a night out. Transitioning evening wear into the day is challenging for me because my wardrobe is casual and when I think of evening wear, I think of gowns, black, sparkle and heels. Most of these items are lacking in my closet.

Digging through my inventory looking for pieces to wear this week, I realized that I don’t have anything considered evening. I can blame it on my location, partner, or age. The restaurants are casual and even if we went to Alexander’s, I believe I could still get away with wearing denim.

Week 1 challenge is a lot harder than last week. Not only do I have to find evening wear, but I have to factor in how the item makes me feel special or glamorous. Once I started pulling items off the hangers, I became stuck because I did not have a template or guide to use as a reference point. The stuff I pulled, I wasn’t sure if they ever made me feel special or glamorous.

Marching on.

I opted to find things that I would wear out but not to work to help keep my focus on evening wear.

Monday OOTD

  • Divided vest
  • Trevira blazer
  • Dolce & Gabbana silk stripped blouse
  • Current Elliott denim
  • Jeffrey Campbell booties

What makes this outfit evening attire is the blazer. The greens in the blazer are great colors and the blazer has threads of gold metallic running through. The blazer is big on me, so that is why I added a fitted vest to help make the look flattering.

Tuesday OOTD

  • Dolce & Gabbana blazer
  • Tory Burch red denim
  • Khaite mules
  • Scarf (mother-in-law), belt, & tank top

I have tried to wear this blazer out on a few occasions but keep putting it back on the hanger because I don’t know what to coordinate it with. I did not want to do the usual thing, which is, adding faux leather leggings, so I grabbed my tomato red denim pants. The pants are cropped and kick-out at the ankle so the mules were a must to vamp up the look. I guess you could say the outfit resembles late 80’s dance club The Palladium rather than an evening out with the man. However, it’s still evening!

Wednesday OOTD

  • Christopher & Banks men’s dress shirt
  • SHEIN curve skirt
  • Michael Kors pants
  • Ferragamo suede pumps
  • scarf (aunts)

This is my version of something I would wear out to dinner or socializing with friends but not to the office. I thrifted the SHEIN skirt from SAVERS because I loved the colors. I knew going into the purchase the skirt was too short to wear to the office but I thought I could wear it over jeans or a longer slip skirt. For this challenge, I am using the skirt as a top. I am adding my late aunt’s scarf because I thought it would be fun to mix prints.

Thursday OOTD

  • Yellow sweater vest
  • INC blazer
  • Junya Watanabe denim
  • Lucky Brand booties
  • Tank & belt

I consider this evening wear because of the Michael Jackson inspired blazer. I would never wear this to work, but the outfit is not something outside my comfort zone. The jeans are extremely baggy and I think that I will look a little boxy since the vest is also oversized.

Friday OOTD

  • Escada silk blouse
  • Frame velour denim
  • Nima booties
  • Scarf, tank, belt, jewelry (mother-in-law)

I am developing Friday’s outfit around a necklace I received after my mother-in-law passed. It’s a beaded necklace containing warm Autumn colors of coral, mustard, green and turquoise. This will be my first time wearing the necklace because I had no idea how to style it and as nice as it looked on my ex mother-in-law, it did not look that nice on me. I do think of this outfit as evening vs. day because I am wrapping the silk blouse so the bust is low. I am also trying out multiple necklaces to tie in the gold belt and the colors from the scarf.

Challenge: Glamour

Style Challenge: Glamour!

The month of March, is about glamour and how being glamorous can make you feel. To be glamorous is something I see as someone attractive, put together, high fashion, luxury car, and decked out in gold! I think my vision of glamour is somewhat shallow, because it most likely extends past financial gain.

My focus in March is to take in the energy I feel when I feel glamorous and what steps I will do to continue that energy shift on a daily basis from wearing items that make me feel glamorous. This shift extends beyond dress code and can include other things like wearing a piece of jewelry, something inherited, or a bold lip. I have three challenges plus others to make up ~25 days.

Let’s go, GLAMOUR!

The 2019 Project

Last Day: Peach Fuzz

Today was the last day of my style color challenge. Over a few weeks, I went from Miss daily dose of denim or cotton sweats to a triad of orange, green, and purple hues. Each outfit, was inspired from a collection of images from my homework and online.

Graduating from color academy was not as difficult as I thought. I never considered I could take colors from any old image and create outfits that I actually like. These past two weeks took me outside my comfort zone. I feel freed from my internal negative thoughts that I should not wear color because it is too elementary. In fact, wearing color has been a blast, and I’ve been lucky that I was able to experiement.

For my last day, I took inspiration from a photo I found of brick red and Peach Fuzz shades. I had the perfect colors in my closet to create the look. I thought the outfit looked great on the dress form. Unfortunately, when on me, I made the outfit look like an 80 year old’s attire.

I want try this outfit again. I think once I learn how to master accessories, I will complete an outfit I love.

OOTD:

  • Brunello Cucinelli Cashmere sweater
  • Lafayette 148 pants
  • Prada oxfords
  • Scarf
